In the summer of 2005, we began a complete overhaul of our theatrical lighting system, beginning with the replacement of our electrical wiring, which was completed in 2006. Starting in the mid-seventies, a groundswell of community interest and support culminated in the re-opening of the Opera House in October of 1982, in spite of the dingy walls, broken windows, lack of proper seats and heating.
To date, scores of generous individuals, organizations and businesses have contributed close to two million dollars to the rebirth of this historic treasure. The opera house is renowned for its acoustical purity and it is the central venue of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra.
These and several other performers from the height of Motown’s most popular musical decade may not be coming to Barre in person, but a show that highlights these very popular entertainers and their hit songs is on its way.
